                    One Direction (occasionally abbreviated 1D ) is a pop boy band formed in the city of London, UK, in 2010 . It is made by the British Harry Styles , Liam Payne , Louis Tomlinson , Zayn Malik and Niall by the Irish Horan.1 The quintet was formed after its members participate in the musical reality show The X Factor as solo contestants , until, during the program , the singer Nicole Scherzinger and Simon Cowell teamed up for the run as a group . The band finished third program , behind Matt Cardle and Rebecca Ferguson.
             The group got out of The X Factor with a great success , so much so that by the power of social networking their two albums , Up All Night (2011 ) and Take Me Home (2012 ) broke many records , as well as reaching the top of the charts by worldwide and spawned hit singles , including " What Makes You Beautiful " and " Live While We're Young" .
           Often been described as the new " The Beatles " , the group led the resurgence of boy band concept and part of a new " British Invasion " , succeeding the Beatles and the Spice Girls. In addition , the group has entered the record books , the Guinness Book for being the first British to stay on top of the Billboard 200 for more than 15 weeks.
             " What Makes You Beautiful " became a worldwide hit , which led the album Up All Night sell over  million copies around the world.6 7 In 2012 , Take Me Home , debuted in 1 . ª position over 40 countries , including the Billboard 200 , selling over 540,000 copies in the United States . In its worldwide debut , the album sold just over 1,616,000 cópias.8 In less than two weeks of release, the album was certified platinum in the United States , to sell 1 million copies in país.

              Until now , the boyband has sold over 19 million singles worldwide , 10 million albums and earned 5 million in just 10 performances with his first tour in 11 2012.10 According to Nick Gatfield , the president of Sony Music Entertainment One Direction had a fortune of $ 50 million by June 2012 . They were proclaimed in 2012 as " Best New Artist" by Billboard , while the portal The Huffington Post stated: "2012 , the year of One Direction ' .
